With 2yos now slowly shifting their preferences to longer distances as they get older you should now be all the more careful with jumping to conclusions about first works. This is going to be especially true early in the year right now when they are near their youngest. Some of them will take some time to develop but the improvement may be more than you have seen in the past with many of them as they get older.
